33 - What Menopause Does to Women's Wealth with Sarah Megginson & Simone Clarke.
Today Jody speaks with Sarah Megginson, personal finance expert and Simone Clarke from UN CEO United Nations Women Australia. Sarah and Simone are two of the authors of the State of Women's Wealth Report 2025.
They report the menopause can mean an average hit of $40,000 to a women's superannuation balance. We discuss ways that women can reduce this impact by contributing more to superannuation in the years leading up to menopause and how we should all be encouraging our daughters to be more mindful about investing in their future at a younger age.
Women 50+ are the fastest growing demographic experiencing homelessness in Australia and the fastest growing single person household. These women can be driven into these circumstances through divorce, needing to stop work to care for aging parents, illness, lack of superannuation, working part time or working casually. We highlight the need for women to address financial problems as they arise instead of burying their heads in the sand. We talk about where women can go for support and the type of support that is available to them.
This is an episode every woman needs to listen to, no matter what age you are.
